In a four-part series, life coach Pete Cohen is going to help you achieve your goals to make 2019 your best year yet.
In this second video, Pete looks at how to start on those life changes – because starting is often the hardest bit.
“The hardest thing to do is get started but once you’ve started, it’s pretty easy to keep going.”
We live a life where we want to feel a certain way. In your life there are many things that you don’t feel like doing, but you have to do them – like cooking food for your kids or turning up to work on time. It’s what’s called a non-negotiable.
How many people in the world are sitting somewhere saying ‘I don’t feel like it’? Then just imagine how many people that are in the world who really don’t feel like doing something but the fact that they don’t feel like it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they’re going to do something
What we have to do is understand that if you don’t feel like something, there’s a part of your brain that will try to protect you and say ‘Look, no, no! This isn’t gonna feel good so let’s stay where we are because most of us like to feel good most of us don’t like pain and discomfort.
How you feel doesn’t have to have anything to do with it – it’s about how you want to feel. So we might not feel inspired or motivated, but if the motivation and the inspiration is not coming to us – we have to go and get it.
You need activation energy – the ability to get yourself activated. When you get out of bed to go to the gym, it can feel like hard work, so Pete Cohen has the a simple technique called 5-4-3-2-1 to help activate yourself and your energy.
Think about the list of things you want to change and then start thinking about 5-4-3-2-1… how can I start this?
