I don’t know about you but I don’t believe in New Year’s resolutions. With my therapist head on I feel like they don’t work because they are based on a date in the calendar rather than our desire or willingness to change at that time, but my main gripe is that we are conditioned to focus New Year’s resolutions on something negative about ourselves that we are made to think that we should change.
I am not saying that self improvement is a bad thing, but vague, unrealistic goals in resolutions put a lot of pressure upon us, and if we feel like the goal is constantly just out of our grasp, then the resolution will end up being a de-motivator – and its not fair to put ourselves in situation that make us unhappy.
Every New Year brings pressure to make improvements or change to who you are, but this year I would like to turn things on its head and make 2020 the year where you can just be you.
Silence that voice in your head that sometimes says “I’m not good enough” by celebrating everything that you are awesome at, rather than focusing on things that you might not like so much.
You are a vibrant, unique, beautiful human being and the only thing that you need to be in 2020 is your wonderful self.
